The Red Lake Falls Eagle Girls Basketball team dropped a close game at home to the Win-E-Mac Patriots 63-61 in Red Lake Falls.
FIRST HALF –
In the first half, Shandi Nelson got off to a good start for Red Lake Falls as she hit the first couple of baskets for the Eagles, as it was tied at four. Elizabeth Lytle used a nice post move to get her first basket of the night and added a layup later to give Red Lake Falls a 9-8 lead. Nelson, later on, hit a reverse layup to give the Eagles a 12-11 lead. Nelson continued her scoring, this time from the free-throw line, as she made a pair of free throws to give Red Lake Falls a 19-16 lead. Nelson added to her excellent first half with a bucket underneath as she had 15 points in the first half. Red Lake Falls took a 28-25 lead at the halftime break.
SECOND HALF –
In the second half, Kayla Schafer got a basket and drew a foul for Red Lake Falls as she hit the free throw as well to make it 31-29 with the Eagles leading. Win-E-Mac opened up an 11-point lead early in the half, but Lytle later in the half would get an offensive rebound and putback to cut the Patriots lead down to eight. Nelson hit a three for Red Lake Falls to cut the Patriots lead down to 46-41. Later in the half, Nelson hit her second three of the game to tie it at 48 apiece. Nelson would hit yet another three to give Red Lake Falls a 54-53 lead. Nelson would draw contact and get a basket plus a foul shot to tie the game at 61. Win-E-Mac’s Ava Howard would get a layup with about a minute to go to give the Patriots a 63-61 lead. Red Lake Falls drew up a play late to try and take the win but Nelson’s three didn’t go and Win-E-Mac would pick up a 63-61 road victory.
Red Lake Falls drops to 4-19 on the year and will take on Kittson County Central tomorrow. Win-E-Mac improves to 6-18 on the season and hosts Clearbrook-Gonvick on Friday.
