Robert L. “Bob” Mjoen – Obit

Robert L. “Bob” Mjoen, 78, of Donna, TX, passed aw ay at the Valley Grand Care Center in nearby Weslaco, TX, on September 18, 2020. 

Bob was born in Fosston, MN on September 26, 1941 to Lloyd and Ann Mjoen. The family later moved to Crookston where he graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1959. Bob enlisted in the US Air Force on January 5, 1960 and received his honorable discharge on December 11, 1963. He met his future wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Hume, while home on leave in 1963 and the couple were united in marriage on August 29, 1964. Bob was employed by Control Data and the 3M Company in Minneapolis. After moving back to Crookston he worked fixing office equipment for a local office supply store. Bob then enrolled at the U of M Technical College in Crookston and after receiving an associate degree went on to UND in Grand Forks to earn a bachelor’s degree in business administration education. He then became the Business Manager for Northwest Mental Health in Crookston.

In November of 1979, Bob, Betty and their 2 children, Cheryl and Forrest, moved to Paradise, CA. Bob had accepted a position as business manager for the Butte County Social Service Office in Oroville, CA where he was employed for 20 years until his retirement. Bob and Betty then sold their home, bought an RV, and began traveling the country. Bob sent back emails every month from wherever they were and always signed off, “Life is Good!” After 14 years they settled in Palm Shadows Mobile Home and RV Park in Donna, where they had previously spent their winter months.

Remaining to cherish Bob’s memory are his beloved wife, Betty; daughter, Cheryl Mjoen Parks and husband, Jeff, and their children, McKenna and Jake Parks of Gilroy, CA; son, Forrest Mjoen and wife, Tonya, and their daughters, Tiana and Jena of Wheaton, MN; brother, Don Mjoen of Crookston, MN; sister, Jerrice Bendickson of San Jose, CA; brother-in-law, Bill Hume of Thief River Falls, MN; sisters-in-law, Beverly Hume of Crookston, MN and Judy Hume Milne of Grand Forks, ND; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ann Mjoen; sister-in-law, Marlene “Mickie” Mjoen; niece, Diana “DeeDee” Mjoen Stadem; 3 brothers-in-law, David, Roy, and Hilding Hume; and sister-in-law, Kathy Hume.

A memorial graveside service for Bob will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 28, 2022, at the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston, MN with The Rev. Greg Isaacson, officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Grand Forks Air Force Base Funeral Honors Team and the Crookston Veterans Council. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:30am.
