Roger Keith Nordby – OBIT

Roger Keith Nordby, 74, beloved father, grandfather, uncle and friend, was called home for his last ride to his eternal resting place on October 21, 2023. He peacefully passed away while under hospice care in Cambridge, MN, at Prairie Senior Cottages with his two daughters, Sherry and Lori by his side.

Roger entered into this world with his twin brother, Doyle on August 25, 1949 in Ada, MN, born to Orlin and Frances Nordby. He graduated from Ada High school in 1969. On October 7, 1972 he married Debbie Petrik (Davis), and they had 2 children, Sherry and Lori.

Roger attended and graduated from Brown Institute in MPLS in 1971, in computer programing. Shortly after college he started working for Sears & Roebuck, in MN for 4 years, then later moved to Louisville, KY, where he worked for Sears & Roebuck headquarters for 18 months, then in 1981 moved to Orland Park, IL where he worked for Sears as a Logistics IT Business Manager – IT Systems Manager at the Sears Tower in downtown Chicago. He then later married Cathy Campbell on August 1, 1986. Roger, worked 25 years at Sears Co. and got to enjoy his retirement at the age of 55. He enjoyed traveling to Japan, England and Europe with Frances, Esther and Nancy and cruising to the Caribbean, South America, and through the Panama Canal, and Hawaii. In the fall time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with his nephews, cousins, friends and brother, also taking Doyles & Ronni’s camper with his lifelong friend Danny to Canada on fishing trips. His best friend since childhood, Vicky and husband Dale would enjoy rides to Sturgis on their motorcycles. Roger built his retirement home on White Earth Lake in 2004. In 2015 he bought a winter home in Tucson, AZ, where he enjoyed leading hikes on Sabino Canon trails and making new friends. He also joined the Javalina Motorcycle Riding group, and he was a lead captain that helped plan the trips and the roads they we’re going to take. He really liked giving to the Annual Red Sleigh Toy Run with biker friends. Roger enjoyed having his girls visit him anytime even up till the end, he enjoyed taking them on the same trails he’s been on with his hikes and motorcycle ride. Roger also enjoyed photography and taking photos of all the sights he would see on all his journeys, and he enjoyed learning and playing guitar, and always loved spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his daughters, Sherry & Pat Longley, and Lori Kenison; 5 grandchildren, Kinzie, (Dylan), Breea (Wyatt) (Sherry’s children and sons in law), and Caleb, Ethan and Reece (Lori’s children); nephews, Jeff, Linda Petry (NC), Mark, Amber Petry (DC), Eric, Krista Petry (NY), Jermey, Diana (TN), and Jason (MN); special friends, Ronni Nordby (Crookston, MN), Vicky & Dale Pederson (Ada, MN), and Danny (John) DuChene, (Ada, MN); aunt, Nola Stenerson (Fargo, ND); and numerous cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Orlin and Frances Nordby of Ada; sister, Esther Petry of New York; brother, Doyle Nordby of Waubun; Nancy Petry of Connecticut; uncle and aunt, Bennie and Doris Schmidt of Ada; and grandfather, Otto Nordby of Ada.

He’s going to be truly missed by all.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Thursday, November 2, 2023 at Grace Lutheran Church, Ada, MN.

Visitation: 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Ada, MN.

Interment: Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.
