Ronald “Ronnie” Cassavant – OBIT

Ronald “Ronnie” Cassavant, 80 of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at his residence with family by his side.

The visitation will begin at 10:00 AM with the service to honor Ronald at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Hospice Chaplin Craig Schmidt officiating. Burial will be at St. Dorothy Cemetery, Dorothy, MN. Military honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793, Ekelund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117, and Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Ronald Duane Cassavant was born on April 5, 1943, the son of Harry Cassavant and Angeline (Lefebvre) Cassavant. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Dorothy Catholic Church in Dorothy, MN. He graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls with the class of 1961.

Ronnie joined the United States Army in 1966 and was Honorably Discharged in 1968. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Bronze Star Medal.

He worked at Detroiter Mobile Homes in Red Lake Falls and Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls for 30 years.

Ronnie loved playing cards, dice games, Aggravation game, gardening, keeping his yard beautiful with lots of Maxine’s flowers. Feeding and watching the birds, going on rides in his pick-up to visit friends with his dog, Muffin.

He belonged to the VFW Post 2793 in Thief River Falls.

Ronnie is survived by his partner and wife of 32 years, Maxine. Step-children, Virginia “Ginger” (Larry) Cote, Robert Cote, Steve Cote; brothers and sisters, Shirley Hanson of Red Lake Falls, Dee Poole of Alexandria, MN, Alan (Sue) Cassavant of Alexandria, Judy (Wayne) Violette, Orren Cassavant of Red Lake Falls, Kim (Jon) Volker of Crookston, MN and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Angeline Cassavant; and brothers-in-law, Joe Hanson and Doug Poole.
