The Sacred Heart Eagles Baseball team hammered out 16 hits, including two home runs as they cruised to an 11-1 victory in five innings over the Fosston Greyhounds to advance to the Section 8A Championship on Thursday in Thief River Falls.
Sacred Heart started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Cullen Rohrich led off with a double. A few pitches later Rohrich stole third base and came into score on an Ethan Arnston single for a 1-0 lead.
Fosston had a big threat in the top of the second inning with bases loaded in two outs, but Sacred Heart’s Isaac Zavoral was able to get a Fosston batter to fly out to right field to get out of the jam.
Sacred Heart added another run in the bottom of the second inning when Breck Bloom doubled and came into score on a Cullen Rohrich single for a 2-0 lead.
In the top of the third inning, Fosston loaded the bases with two outs for the second straight inning. Once again, the Greyhounds couldn’t come up with a hit and Sacred Heart led 2-0.
Sacred Heart blew the game open in the bottom of the third inning when Sam Gapp led off with a single. After an out, Nick Brundin doubled to score a run. Caden Reimer followed with an rbi single for a 4-0 lead. Isaac Zavoral walked, Breck Bloom singled and David Larson hit a sacrifice fly for a 5-0 lead. Cullen Rohrich stepped up to the plate and blasted a line drive over the left-field fence for a three-run home run and an 8-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth inning, Fosston loaded the bases with nobody out and they were only able to score one run as Ethan Arnston came into pitch and got three outs and Sacred Heart led 8-1.
Sacred Heart added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning when Nick Brundin hit a solo homerun and Caden Reimer singled and scored on a Breck Bloom basehit for a 10-1 lead.
Sacred Heart led 10-1 going into the bottom of the fifth inning and only needed one run to advance to the championship game. With one out, Parker Erickson drew a walk and Mike Gapp pinch-ran. Gapp stole second base and came into score on a Sam Gapp single to win the game 11-1 in five innings.
Sacred Heart improves to 20-3 on the year and will play either, Fosston, West Marshall, or Ada-Borup-West in the Section 8A Championship at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Fosston drops to 18-2 on the year with both losses coming at the hands of Sacred Heart. Fosston will play the winner of West Marshall and Ada-Borup-West on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
