SACRED HEART EAGLES VOLLEYBALL SERVES THEIR WAY TO VICTORY OVER RED LAKE COUNTY CENTRAL

The Sacred Heart Eagles Volleyball team hosted the Red Lake County Central (RLCC) Mustangs on Tuesday night. The Eagles dominated from start to finish with excellent serving, and a balanced attack, winning the match in three sets (25-13, 25-12, 25-12).

First Set
The start of the match was even with both teams trading points until it was 5-5. The Eagles would start to gain some breathing room scoring seven of the next eight points to take a 12-6 lead. Leading the charge for Sacred Heart was Ava Knudson with a couple of kills. RLCC would counter with a run of their own scoring three in a row to pull back within four points at 13-9. Sacred Heart didn’t waste time countering with an impressive run of five straight points to take an 18-9 lead and force a Mustangs timeout. RLCC would never get closer than eight points the rest of the set and the Eagles would finish things off with a 25-13 win to take a 1-0 lead. Serving played a big role for Sacred Heart in the opening set with four aces from four different girls.

Second Set
Once again the Eagles used a balanced attack to win the second set 25-12. The two teams started out trading points but eventually, the Eagles would start to pull away and find themselves in front 12-6. This time it was Emma Anvinson taking control early for the Eagles with a pair of kills. The Mustangs would hand around and keep the match somewhat close, getting a kill and cutting the Eagles lead to 19-12. However, that would be the last point for the Mustangs and the Eagles would rattle off six straight points to win the set 25-12. The final six points included two kills from Avery Horken and three aces from Ella Adolphson.

Third Set
The third set started out in favor of RLCC taking a 3-1 lead, but it was short-lived as Sacred Heart would score six straight points to take a 7-3 advantage. The run was highlighted with two aces from Ella Werner. The final set was never in question and the Eagles cruised their way through the third set winning 25-12 to win the match 3-0. Ella Werner capped off the match with one final ace, her third of the set, and the team’s fourteenth of the match.

Sacred Heart continues its strong season and improves to 6-2-2 on the year. They will be back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Stephen to take on Stephen-Argyle. RLCC drops to 2-9 with the loss.
