SACRED HEART USES STRONG SECOND HALF TO BEAT STEPHEN-ARGYLE BOYS BBALL

The Sacred Heart Eagle Boys Basketball team shot 56 percent from the field in the second half and pulled away for an 83-57 victory over the Stephen-Argyle Storm in a Section 8A matchup played in Stephen

FIRST HALF-
The start of the game was fast-paced as Stephen-Argyle jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind two baskets by Blaine Smith. Sacred Heart responded with seven straight points when a Greg Downs basket and five points from Parker Erickson for a 7-4 lead. The Storm’s Blaine Smith stopped the run with another basket before Sacred Heart’s Josiah Sundby made a three-pointer. Once again, Blaine Smith responded with another basket for his eighth point of the game to bring the Storm within a 10-8 deficit. The game was tied at 12-12 halfway through the half.  The teams continued the back-and-forth battle, and Sacred Heart led 23-19 with three minutes left in the half. Sacred Heart finished the half on an 11-5 run, with Erickson scoring five points, Josiah Sundby and Mike Gapp adding three points apiece for a 34-24 lead going into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
Sacred Heart started the second half with a Downs basket before the Storm responded with four Jake Carlson points and a free throw from Jayden Woinarowicz to get within a 36-29 deficit. It was at this point in the game that Josiah Sundby took over by scoring seven straight points to spark a 15-5 run for a  51-34 lead with 12:45 remaining. Sacred Heart continued their solid second-half shooting as they led 69-50 when they went on a 9-0 run with four different players scoring for a 78-50 lead with four minutes remaining. The teams went deep into the bench the rest of the way, and Sacred Heart coasted to an 83-57 victory.

Sacred Heart improves to 10-4 on the year and will travel to Mahnomen-Waubun on Thursday. Stephen-Argyle drops to 4-9 on the year and will play Warroad on Thursday.
