SPORTS FEEVER – July 15, 2021

Welcome to another Sports Feever column by the infamous Chris Fee.  We are a little short again this week.  We have been getting ready for our 60th Annual KROX Crazy Auctions on Thursday and the legion baseball tournament Friday, Saturday, and Sunday where I could do anywhere from 5 to 8 or 9 games this weekend.  It is a busy but fun time of year and besides the long road trip, Roseau is a great place with a nice field and great people that hold fantastic tournaments so it is always enjoyable to be in Ram Country!

On Wednesday, I had a Minnesota Broadcasters Association Meeting and being board chair I like to be at our meetings in St. Paul in person at the old Hamms Brewery building.  So I use Denver Air Connection in Thief River Falls to Minneapolis.  I have gotten to know Glen Rich, Vice President of the airline, and he and his crew do a fantastic job.  Thief River Falls regional airport did a great job when they dumped Boutique Air and got Denver Air to come in.  The jet is usually a 20 to 35 passenger plane and it takes about 45 to 50 minutes to get to Minneapolis.  It is $84 bucks each way, but if you want to fly out at 6:45 a.m. and come back by 5:00 p.m. you can without driving 10 hours.  It is a great deal, the pilots and flight crews are great and I highly recommend it!!  TRF airport also has free parking and is about $400 to $500 cheaper than taking Grand Forks or Fargo to Minneapolis.

It was fun, on the way down I got to talk with a great guy that happens to be our State Senator, Mark Johnson.  He was heading to redistricting meetings as he is on the state redistricting committee.  So we had a nice chat and we are in great hands with him as our area’s state senator.

Anyway, back to sports.   We have legion baseball tournaments this weekend and next weekend.  We have info on that and more.  Enjoy!

The University of Minnesota Crookston men’s basketball team announced the addition of Kobe Kriese (G, 6-1 190, Antioch, Ill./Antioch H.S.). Kriese is the eighth signee for the Golden Eagles for the 2021 class.

Kriese played basketball and football at Antioch H.S. Kriese was named Lake County All-Area Second Team during his senior season for the Sequoits. He played his senior season for first-year head coach Tim Bowen.

“In a tough year for seniors in high school during Covid I am very pleased to add Kobe to our program,” said Head Coach Dan Weisse. “I really enjoyed having Kobe and his father Drew on his visit. He comes from a great family. I could grasp immediately he has the right mentality to find success on the court and off. Kobe could really score the ball at the high school level and has some leadership qualities that will serve him well in college. I believe he has the right mindset and will find success through hard work and a no quit attitude. I’m excited to help him expand his game on both ends of the floor. Kobe is a great fit for our program and finishes up our recruiting class very nicely.”
