Crookston Public Schools held their District Spelling Bee Friday afternoon at Highland Elementary. Eighth-grader Summer Goulet won the bee and will advance to the Regional Spelling Bee in Thief River Falls on February 6. “I didn’t think I was going to win but I did, it’s awesome” said Goulet. Her winning word was promenade which she said, “was a pretty easy one.”
Highland Principal Chris Trostad talked more about the spelling bee. “It’s a fun event to host every year and it’s fun to see the kids compete,” said Trostad. “A couple of kids from each grade make it up on stage and they do a fantastic job with some complicated words. We’ve had some real great success in the past with Ainsley Boucher going to the national tournament out in Washington, D.C. We wish Summer the best of luck. We’ve had a lot of success in Crookston and it speaks volume about our school and our teachers and is great to see that type of success for our students.”
