The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) Bulldogs scored just shy of four minutes into the game and they didn’t stop with a dominating first half and coasted to a 63-7 win over the University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) at Ed Widseth Field in Crookston.
Starting Bulldog quarterback Mike Rybarczyk ran for a touchdown and passed for one in the first quarter with UMD leading 28-0 at the first break. Bulldogs number two quarterback, Ben Everhart dominated the second quarter with three touchdown passes to Obi Ibeneme and Everhart ran for one as well and UMD lead 56-0 at half-time. There was no scoring in the third quarter and the third Bulldogs quarterback Garrett Olson, a freshman threw a touchdown pass to take a 63-0 lead. UMC would score with just under two minutes left in the game when UMD had a punt snap go over the punters head into the end zone which was recovered by the Golden Eagles Kyler Banks (Soph-Cannon Falls, Mn) to avoid a shutout, but Minnesota-Duluth would claim the 63-7 win on the road. How dominating was UMD? They had 29 first downs to three for UMC and amassed 539 yards of total offense, 336 in the air with Ibeneme catching six passes for 118 yards and the three touchdowns. UMC had 109 total yards with 41 yards passing. UMC quarterback Jalen Scott (Jr-Houston, Tx) led UMC with 55 yards on the ground and threw for just 41 yards. Even though the Bulldogs had over 500 yards of offense, UMC’s linebacker Austin Steele (Fresh-La Crosse, Wi) had12 tackles.
UM-Duluth is now 9-0 on the season while UMC falls to 1-8 on the year.
