The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Men’s Basketball team couldn’t match Winona State’s offensive pace in the second half, losing 63-40.
FIRST HALF-
In the first half, UMC used an excellent start to go up 18-4 in the first six minutes of the half. Ben Hoverson (Jr. Grand Forks, ND) hit two threes, Reid Grant (Jr. Johnston, IA) also hit a pair of threes, Blaize Sagna (Jr. London, England) got a pair of twos, and Aguek Deng (R-Jr. Des Moines, IA) hit two free throws. Winona State went on a 14-2 run to make it 20-18. Jordan Mitchell (R-Jr. Columbus, OH) made a layup to give UMC a 22-18 lead. Winona State would put together a 9-2 run to go up 27-24. Mitchell hit two more layups for UMC, but Winona State would hold a 32-28 lead at the half.
SECOND HALF-
In the second half, Winona State went on a 15-0 run to begin the half and go up 47-28. Grant got the first basket in the half for the Golden Eagles. Sagna got a pair of layups, but UMC still trailed 52-34. Mario Adams (Fresh Rosemount, MN) got a layup for UMC. Later in the half, Hoverson connected on another three to make it 59-39. Sagna hit a late free throw for UMC as they dropped their final game of the regular season 63-40.
UMC’s season ends with a record of 6-22 overall and an NSIC record of 3-19. Winona State ends the regular season at 19-9 and 14-8 in NSIC play. Winona State will host a First Round NSIC postseason game next week.
