#8 Concordia-St. Paul to much for UMC Volleyball

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Volleyball battled, but came up short in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-14) loss to the #8-ranked Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears in a Northern Sun Conference (NSIC) at Lysaker Gymnasium on the UMC campus.

SET ONE
CSP jumped out to a 5-1 lead to start the match behind two kills and three UMC attack errors. UMC recorded a point on a Golden Bear service error. CSP took an 8-3 lead when Emma Malek had a kill. After a Golden Bear kill, UMC’s Maya Jones had a kill. CSP followed with a kill before a CSP passing error, followed by a Muth kill to get within a 9-6 deficit. The Golden Bears slowly pulled away the rest of the set to win 25-16 to take a 1-0 lead.

SET TWO
Concordia-St. Paul jumped out to an 8-2 lead to start the second set behind some impressive kills and back-to-back service aces. The run stopped after a CSP service error. After a Golden Bear kill, UMC’s Mutch had a kill, and after a CSP attack error, the Golen Eagles were within a 9-5. CSP went on an 8-2 run for a 17-7 lead. UMC stopped the run when Muth had another kill. Trailing 19-9, UMC tried to rally with kills from Jones and Baily Teveldal. Jones added a service acce to get within a 19-12. The teams exchanged points the rest of the way, and CSP won 25-18 to take a 2-0 lead.

SET THREE
Once again, CSP jumped out to an 8-2 lead. UMC got a point on a CSP service error and scored another point on an attack error to get within an 8-4 deficit. Concordia-St. Paul answered with a 6-1 run to take a 14-5 lead. The Golden Bears continued to pull away and built a 21-11 lead before Madison Carsten warmed up with two kills and a CSP attack error to get within a 21-14 deficit. CSP ended the match on a 4-0 run to win the set 25-14 and won the match 3-0.

UMC drops to 7-18 overall and 4-13 in the NSIC and will wrap up the season on Saturday as they host Minnesota State Mankato at 2:30 p.m., and the match will be on KROX Radio. Concorida-St. Paul improves to 20-5 on the year and 15-2 in the NSIC.
