UMC Women’s Basketball Picked to Finish 12th in NSIC Coaches Poll

The University of Minnesota Crookston (UMC) women’s basketball team was picked to finish 12th out of 15 teams in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Women’s Basketball Preseason Coaches’ Poll. UMC finished 12th in the standings last season with a record of 6-16 in the NSIC and 9-19 overall.

UMC will return the bulk of their team and have added some solid newcomers. To returners are Emma Miller (Jr. Albertville), who averaged 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists per game as a sophomore last year. The Golden Eagles also return Hope Dudycha (So., Austin), who averaged eight points per game. Nicole Hernandez (Sr., Oak Creek, Wis.) returns after starting 23 games. Olivia Walsh (So., Austin), Riley Jenkins (So., Galesburg, Ill.), Taryn Frazer (Jr., Cass Lake), Rayna Klejeski (So., Barnum), and Natalie Mikrot (Jr., Willow River,).

UMC also has a strong incoming class this season with Emme Munch (Fr., Boise, Idaho), Halle Winjum (Fr., Crookston), Brynlea Mahlen (Fr., Fosston), Willow Thiel (Fr., Perham), Emma Osborn (Jr., Crookston), and Kloe Wadd (So., Waseca).

Minnesota State University-Mankato, the defending National Champions, was selected to win the conference with 12 first-place votes. Northern State University finished a close second. Madelyn Bragg of Northern State was selected as the NSIC Preseason Player of the Year.

The Golden Eagles open the regular season on November 8 against the University of Nebraska Kearney in Aberdeen, S.D. Their first home game is December 6 against Bemidji State University.
