October is Minnesota College Knowledge Month, and the University of Minnesota Crookston is encouraging prospective on-campus students to take advantage of the month-long opportunity to submit their application for free.
For the entire month of October, UMN Crookston will waive its application fee for students applying to any of its on-campus degree programs.
“College Knowledge Month is a great time for students to move from thinking about college to taking action,” said Maggie Melvin, director of admissions at UMN Crookston. “We know the college search can feel overwhelming, so we want to make the process as accessible and straightforward as possible. Applying is one of the easiest ways for a student to learn more about what UMN Crookston has to offer and whether it is the right fit for their goals.”
UMN Crookston takes a holistic approach to admission, considering a student’s academic record, experiences, interests, aspirations, work ethic, and engagement. ACT and SAT scores are not required for admission. “Students are more than your GPA. Their experiences, interests, leadership, goals, and the impact they want to make all matter. College Knowledge Month is an opportunity for students to take that first step and discover where their unique strengths can take them,” said Melvin.
Students applying to UMN Crookston can also explore a variety of scholarship opportunities.
Students are automatically considered for Achievement Scholarships based on their academic record as part of the admission process. In addition, UMN Crookston offers hundreds of Specialty Scholarships supported by generous alumni, donors and friends of the University. These scholarships recognize students based on criteria that may include academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, community engagement and service, leadership, financial need, and legacy.
The 2027–28 Specialty Scholarship Application is now open, and the deadline to apply is March 1, 2027. Students only need to complete one application to be considered for Specialty Scholarship eligibility.
“Scholarships can make a meaningful difference in a student’s college experience,” Melvin said. “We want students to know that applying for admission is just the beginning. Once admitted, there are additional opportunities to explore financial support with our amazing team in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships”
Students interested in attending UMN Crookston are encouraged to apply for free during the month of October, schedule a visit to campus, connect with an admissions counselor and begin exploring scholarship opportunities.
