WADENA-DEER CREEK RUNS PAST CROOKSTON BOYS BASKETBALL

The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverine Boys Basketball team went on a 14-0 run to end the first half and added a 17-4 run early in the second half as they cruised to a 76-42 victory over the Crookston Pirates in a Section 8AA game played in Crookston.  Wadena-Deer Creek had 14 of the 17 players dressed score at least two points in the win.

FIRST HALF –
Wadena-Deer Creek started the game on a 5-0 run after a basket from Kobe Snyder and a three-pointer from Peyton Church.  Crookston got on the board two minutes into the game when Hunter Nicholas scored in the paint, but the Wolverines responded with the next eight points. Four different players scored, with Snyder, Phillip Ross, and Teshome Loer each recording a basket, and Church made two free throws for a 13-2 lead almost six minutes into the game.
Crookston battled back with a Reggie Winjum three-pointer and a Nicholas basket on a nice up-and-under move.  After a Wolverine basket, Crookston resumed their run with five straight points from Nicholas to get within a 15-12 deficit.  Nicholas had nine of the team’s first 12 points.
Wadena-Deer Creek slowly built a 22-15 lead before they ended the half on a 14-0 run over the final four minutes to take a 36-15 lead into halftime.

SECOND HALF –
Crookston scored the first points of the second half when Nicholas scored on a baseline jump shot, but the Wolverines responded with a 7-0 run.  Church chipped in a three-pointer, and the Wolverines added two baskets for a 43-17 lead early in the second half.  Crookston answered with baskets from Winjum and Nicholas before the Wolverines responded with an 11-0 run to take a 54-21 lead with 11 minutes left in the game.  The Wolverines continued to pull away and built a 64-30 lead with 7:18 left in the game and were one point from starting running time. Crookston didn’t want running time and went on a 6-0 run with four points from Caden Boike and two free throws from Ryan Abeld.  Both teams went deep into the benches the rest of the game, and Wadena-Deer Creek cruised to a 76-42 victory.

Crookston drops to 6-9 on the year and will travel to Barnesville on Tuesday.  Wadena-Deer Creek improves to 8-3 on the season.
