WEST MARSHALL BASEBALL DEFEATS RED LAKE COUNTY

The Red Lake County Rebels (a cooperative between Red Lake Falls and Oklee/Plummer) and the West Marshall Fusion (a cooperative between Stephen-Argyle and Warren-Alvarado-Oslo) got things started in day two of the Jim Karn Classic and the Fusion came away with their first win of the season by a score of 10-1.

After a scoreless first inning from both pitchers, the Rebels got the scoring started in the second inning. Andrew Johnson led off with a single and reached second on a poor throw to the infield. A single from Bailey Hince got runners to second and third. The Rebels put the suicide squeeze play on and Brady Luethner got the bunt down to score Johnson to take the 1-0 lead.

The Fusion answered back with three runs in the top of the third inning. Two walks sandwiched a strikeout to begin the inning. Jason Lindgren hit a single to left to James Pederson to tie the game. An error on the throw to third got into the dugout and allowed Mike Jacobsen, as well. Lindgren came into score from third on a single from Demetrious Oberg to give the Fusion the 3-1 lead.
The Rebels got a couple of singles in the bottom of the third, but both times the batter reached, they were caught stealing at second base.

Both teams went scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings, despite both teams getting a runner into scoring position.

In the top of the sixth inning, West Marshall added on some insurance runs. The first three batters were walked, one was hit by a pitch, to load the bases with no outs. Will McGlynn added the first run of the inning on a sacrifice fly to left field. Jacobsen walked to load the bases again and a fielder’s choice to get an out at the plate kept the bases loaded with two outs. Oberg came up with the big two-out hit lacing a double down the left field line to bring in two more runs and give the Fusion a 6-1 lead.
Zak Kennett singled with two outs for the Rebels, but three flyouts to the center fielder kept Red Lake County scoreless in the sixth.

West Marshall broke the game open in the seventh inning with four more runs. Aiden Anderson singled to lead off the inning. After a flyout, a couple of walks loaded the bases. Another walk with the bases loaded to Jacobsen brought in a Fusion run. A groundout from Lindgren scored another run. Oberg came up again with runners in scoring position and replicated his previous at-bat with another two-out, two RBI double to make it 10-1.
In the Rebels last at-bat, three pinch-hitters were retired in order by Jackson Woinarowicz to give him the complete game victory and a 10-1 victory for the West Marshall Fusion.
