Earlier this afternoon around 2:00 p.m. a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train behind the Holiday Gas Station in Crookston. The Crookston Police Department released the following statement on the accident.

At approximately 2 PM today, September 23rd, 2021, Polk County Dispatch was advised that a pedestrian had been struck by a train behind 411 North Main Street. The preliminary investigation indicates the incident happened between West 5th and West 6th Streets, close to the railroad bridge over West 6th Street. The deceased subject; a 28 year old male from Crookston, was walking south on the railroad tracks, between the rails, when he was struck from behind by a southbound BNSF train. The subject did not respond to the warning sounds of the train horn. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.
The Crookston Police Department was assisted by Crookston Area Ambulance, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the MN State Patrol.
