Thursday, July 16, was the third day to file to run for Crookston Mayor and Crookston City Council. One candidate filed to run for mayor, and one candidate filed to run for City Council in Ward 2.
CROOKSTON MAYOR –
Kristie Jerde filed to run for mayor on Thursday.
Jerde is a former Crookston City Councilmember for Ward 1, serving in the role from 2021 to 2025. She resigned from the council in July of 2025 due to moving outside of her ward.
Jerde joins current City Council member and Vice-Mayor Morgan Hibma and Dave Rendon in the race for mayor.
CITY COUNCIL WARD 4 –
No candidates filed to run for City Council Ward 4 on Thursday. So far, current Crookston City Councilman in Ward 4, Don Cavalier, has filed to run for re-election.
CITY COUNCIL AT-LARGE –
No candidates filed to run for the At-Large City Council seat on Thursday. Wendy Ault is the only candidate who has filed, as she will run for re-election in her At-Large seat on the council.
CITY COUNCIL WARD 2 –
Matt Rosu filed to run for the City Council in Ward 2 on Thursday.
Rosu hasn’t served on the council or any committees, but he did run for an At-Large City Council seat as a write-in candidate in 2024 and applied to fill an At-Large vacancy on the council in 2025.
CITY COUNCIL WARD 6 –
Nobody filed on the third day of filing.
Filing closes July 28, 2026. Those interested in filing for Crookston Mayor and the four city council openings can file at Crookston City Hall (124 North Broadway) with a filing fee of $2. Candidates who file may withdraw from the election by 5:00 p.m. on July 30.
The primary election is August 11, and the General Election is November 3, 2026.
