On Saturday, September 7 the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Riverview ER in Crookston for an 18-year-old male who had an apparent gunshot wound. Deputy’s arrived and made contact with the male victim. He was being treated for minor injuries as a result of an accidental discharge of his firearm while hunting geese. No further information will be released at this time.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind hunters to use proper firearm safety as we enter the hunting season. Remember the four basics to firearm safety,

  1. Treat all firearms as if they are loaded.
  2. Never point the muzzle of the firearm at anything you don’t intend to shoot.
  3. Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to fire.
  4. Be sure of your target and what is beyond it.
