CROOKSTON TRAP SHOOTING TEAM HOLDS FUN NIGHT AT CROOKSTON GUN CLUB

The Crookston High School Trap Shooting team held their fun night Wednesday at the Crookston Gun Club.  The students and their parents participated in a shoot and enjoyed a potluck as part of the fun night.  “Tonight was our fun night,” said coach Darren Gjerswold. “None of the scores count.  The kids just come out and shoot.  We invite the parents out.  We have burgers and brats, kind of a potluck.  We invite the parents to bring their guns with and come out and shoot with their kids and do a few door prizes here and there. More or less just a little breather before we go down to the state shoot in Alexandria.”

Gjersold said the team had a good year with seven students finishing in the Top 25 in the conference. “We finished sixth out of eight this year, so we had a bunch of kids make the Top 25 in the conference,” said Gjerswold. “We had three boys do that and four girls so we had a really good season this year.  Averages are up quite a bit from last year and we’re really happy with how it went.”

The students in the Top 25 were Brylee Lessard, Mackenzie Aamoth, Lise Lindemoen, Hanna Tehran, Eric Delorme, Jade Selzer, Jon Abeld.

The Pirates will compete in the State Shoot in Alexandria on Thursday, June 13 at 8:30 a.m. with a chance to qualify for the state tournament explains Gjerswold. “That’s a one-day event,” said Gjerswold.  “It’s 100 rounds per shooter.  It’s in Alexandria at the Alexandria Shooting Park.  If we happen to place high there we have the possibility of going to the High School League tournament that’s down in Minneapolis.  So this is basically a qualifier for that.”

The trap shooting team received a check for $2,100 from the Crookston Masonic Lodge.  The donation came from the proceeds of the Masons pancake breakfast fundraiser held earlier this year.
