24 YEAR OLD DROWNS IN RED LAKE RIVER NEAR RED LAKE FALLS

UPDATE (victims name) – 7-4-21 (9:30 p.m.)

At approximately 2:30pm on July 3, the Red Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a possible drowning in the Red Lake River, near Red Lake Falls.  Red Lake County law enforcement officers, the Red Lake Falls Ambulance Service and the Red Lake Falls Fire Department were all dispatched to the scene.  Several witnesses at the scene claimed that an adult male, in his 20’s, was walking in the river and he disappeared below the surface of the water and was not seen again.  Boats were deployed and fire department members and Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to locate the missing individual.  At approximately 4:45pm, the body of the drowning victim was located in approximately 20 feet of water. At this time, the drowning appears to be accidental, but this case remains under investigation.  The name of the victim is Nestor Mendoza Chua Jr., from the Grand Forks Airforce Base and originally from Anchorage, Alaska.
