#5 Northern State Sweeps UMC Volleyball 3-0

The University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagle Volleyball team played hard and gave the #5 ranked Northern State University Wolves a run but came up short in a 3-0 (25-15, 25-20, 25-12) Northern Sun Conference loss at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston.

Set One-
The teams were tied at 1 and 4 before Northern State scored three straight points while taking advantage of a UMC service error, a UMC attack error and the Wolves ended the run with a service ace for a 7-4 lead. Northern State slowly pulled away the rest of the set to win 25-15.

Set Two –
UMC scored the first two points of the second set before Northern State answered with two points of their own to tie the set at 2-2. The teams exchanged points and were tied at 3 and 5 before Northern State went on an 8-2 run for a 13-7 lead. UMC answered with a 6-1 run with kills from three different players, a Katie Lienemann service ace and two Northern State attack errors and Northern State’s lead was 14-13. Northern State led 16-15 when they scored four straight points for a 20-15 lead. The five-point deficit was too much for UMC and Northern State won the set 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Set three –
Northern State jumped out to a 7-3 lead to start the third set. UMC battled back to get within an 11-8 score, but Northern State scored the next 10 points for a 21-8 lead. UMC stopped the run with a Lauren Wallace block, but Northern State continued their strong play for a 25-12 victory to win the set 3-0.
UMC drops to 4-23 overall and 2-17 in the NSIC and will wrap up the season hosting Minnesota State Moorhead on Saturday. Northern State improves to 24-3 on the year and 16-3 in the NSIC.
