Four area high school choirs including Climax-Shelly, East Grand Forks Senior High, Sacred Heart, and Crookston will join to perform in the 59th Annual Fall Choral Festival at the Crookston High School Auditorium on Monday, October 29 at 7:00 pm. The high school choirs will perform two selections individually and join as a festival choir to be conducted by guest director, Christopher Fettig.
Fettig is a 1982 graduate of East Grand Forks Senior High and a 1986 graduate of Bemidji State College. He earned his M.A. degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Illinois in 1993. Chris has spent the past 30 years teaching vocal music at Bemidji High School. He conducts the high school’s Varsity Choir, Bel Canto Choir, Lumberjack Men’s Chorus, the A Cappella Choir, and Bemidji High School’s award-winning show choir “Vocalmotive”. Chris received the Outstanding Young Choral Director Award in 1991, Teacher of the Year Award in 1999, and in 2007 was named Choral Director of the Year by the American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota.
The Fall Choral Festival began 59 years ago by three choral directors: Garfield Reichert of Crookston, Don Danielson of East Grand Forks and Bryant Ulseth of Thief River Falls, to promote choral music and to give students a chance to hear other choirs.
Directors of the high school groups are Adrianne Winger, Donovan Hanson, Jace Erickson, and Belinda Fjeld. Admission at the door: Adults $4.00 and students $3.00.
