#7 PELICAN RAPIDS CRUISES TO A VICTORY OVER PIRATE GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Crookston Pirate Girls Basketball team only scored seven points in the first 16 minutes of the game and the #7 ranked Pelican Rapids Vikings cruised to a 53-35 victory in a Section 8AA matchup at the Crookston High School Gymnasium. 

FIRST HALF-
The game was tied at 4-4 three minutes into the game before Pelican Rapids went on a 24-3 run. The Vikings were led by 11 Morgan Korf points in the run along with four points apiece from Ellie Welch and Anna Roisum, three points from Arianna Hovland, and a basket by Claudia Gurath for a 27-7 lead with two minutes remaining in the half.
Crookston stopped the run with an Isabelle Smith three-pointer before Pelcian Rapids’ Korf scored three points. Crookston’s Smith ended the half with another three-pointer and Pelican Rapids led 31-12 at halftime.

SECOND HALF –
Crookston was looking for a better start to the second half, but that didn’t happen as Pelican Rapids came out strong with a Korf basket and five straight points from  Ellie Welch for a 38-12 lead. Crookston’s Grace Boll stopped the run with a three-pointer followed by a Smith basket to get within a 38-17 deficit.  Pelican Rapids’ Ellie Welch responded with a three-point play followed by a Hovland basket for a 43-17 lead. Crookston’s Joey Nesseth scored before Korf scored five straight points for a 48-19 lead.
Both teams went to the bench the rest of the game, and one of the Crookston highlights was Freshman Maddie Bruggeman scoring four points and grabbing three rebounds in the couple of minutes she played.
Pelican Rapids won the game 53-35.

Crookston drops to 3-18 on the year and will host Stephen-Argyle on Monday. Pelican Rapids improves to 21-2 on the year.
