Fergus Falls Shuts Out Pirate Girls Soccer

The Fergus Falls Otters shutout the Crookston Pirate Girls Soccer team 6-0 in the final regular season match of the season, played on a cold and wet day at the Crookston High School soccer field.
Fergus Falls scored two goals in the first eight minutes to take a quick 2-0 lead.  Crookston Coach Sarah Reese pulled her starting goalie and started to take out several other girls that were playing with nagging injuries, trying to keep the girls healthy on a cold and rainy day so they would be ready to play in the first round of t playoffs on Thursday.  “We have nagging injuries to several starters and playmakers,” said Coach Reese. “Brinna (Egeland), Hannah (Emanuel) and Kylee (Meier) didn’t play much after the eight-minute mark.”
Fergus Falls added another goal 11 minutes into the game and they added another goal 17 minutes later and took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Crookston played some solid defense and cut Fergus Falls’ shots in half and the Otters scored two goals and cruised to a 6-0 victory.  “It was rainy and cold, but the girls kept working hard and played exceptionally well in the second half,” said Coach Reese. “The girls worked together and we had a lot of people get some playing time today.  Sophie Sanders played sweeper and played exceptionally well.”
Crookston ends the regular season with 1-14-1 record and will travel to Bemidji on Thursday for the first round of the Section 8A Girls Soccer tournament.
