The Highway 2 Kennedy Bridge will be closed for three days beginning at 10:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 10 and reopening to traffic by 10:00 p.m., on Friday, July 13. The closure will allow crews to pour concrete for the northern half of the deck on the easterly portion of the bridge.
A three-day closure is needed to allow two full days of cure time for the concrete. This is the final of three concrete deck pours scheduled to take place this summer. The closure was originally planned to begin on Wednesday, June 27, but was delayed due to a materials shortage.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Demers Avenue and South Washington Street. Motorists should plan ahead and expect delays on the Sorlie and Point Bridges, especially during peak travel times.
The Kennedy Bridge was built in 1963 and currently serves 23,000 vehicles per day. Along with preserving the historic nature of the bridge, the project will improve safety for motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists. When complete, it will be able to accommodate all of the same vehicles and equipment that used it previously.
