The Crookston Pirate Wrestlers won the first seven matches and beat the Fergus Falls Otters 60-21 and won the first five matches but came up short to #3 ranked (Class AA) Detroit Lakes 42-31 in a triangular at Fergus Falls.
CROOKSTON vs FERGUS FALLS
The Crookston Pirates won the first seven matches to build a commanding 42-0 lead. Evin Trudeau, Nolan Dans, and Carter Coauette started the match with wins by pin for an 18-0 lead. Ethan Bowman, Zach Brown, and Braxton Volker won by forfeit and Cameron Weiland won by a pin in the first period to give the Pirates a big 42-0 lead to start the evening. “When you’re up 42-0 it is tough to get beat,” said Pirate Coach Hanson. “It was a great showing at the lighter weights and Evin Truduea is starting to feel more comfortable on the varsity scene and he wrestled well and got us going. We moved Nolan Dans down to 113 and Carter Coauette at 120 and there was some really good wrestling there.”
Fergus Falls won the next two matches before Hunter Knutson won by a pin at 170 pounds. “Hunter had a good competitive match,” said Coach Hanson. “He worked hard and was able to pick up a pin.” Ethan Boll won by a pin at 195 pounds and Hunter Kresl wrapped up the match with a win by forfeit for the 60-21 victory. “Boll had a real quick pin and that was good to see,” said Coach Hanson. “It was great to get off to the quick start and to see somebody we don’t normally see and get a win.”

CROOKSTON vs DETROIT LAKES
Crookston won the first five matches and took a 25-0 lead. Evin Trudeau won by a pin in the second period to start the match. “Evin gave up a takedown to end the first period and was taken down again to start the second period,” said Coach Hanson. “Then he flipped a switch and got a reversal and got back points and turned him and got the fall. That was a huge boost to get us going.”
Nolan Dans won by pin in the first period and Carter Coauette also won by a pin to give the Pirates an 18-0 lead. “Nolan and Carter put up a lot of points before they picked up their pins so that was nice to see,” said Coach Hanson.
Ethan Bowman and Zach Brown won by decisions to give the Pirates a 25-0 lead. “Ethan had a good matchup and had a nice turn and some great exchanges and he came away with a major decision,” said Coach Hanson. “Zach hit a big move and I thought he had a pin, but it didn’t happen and we got another nice win. It was nice to build the big lead early.”
Detroit Lakes won the next six matches as they hit the middle of the lineup, which is their strength. Crookston stopped the Laker winning streak with an Ethan Boll pin. “Ethan had a nice quick pin,” said Coach Hanson.
Detroit Lakes won the final two matches for 12 points to come from behind to win 42-31. “It was a tough loss, but we wrestled well and we saw a lot of improvement from the first matches of the season,” said Coach Hanson. “Detroit Lakes is a very good team and ranked #3 in Class AA so we were right there with them. It was a good night of wrestling against people we don’t normally see, so that was good.”
Crookston is now 4-2 in duals on the year and will travel to New York Mills on Friday.
