SPORTS FEEVER – February 11, 2021

Welcome to the subzero version of the Sports Feever column.  We had another week of sports and as most teams are at the halfway point of their season with a month, or less remaining in the regular season.  Teams, for the most part, have been getting all their games in and COVID-19 numbers continue to drop slowly and that is good news.

The Minnesota Mr. Basketball committee has announced the watch list for the 2021 Mr. Basketball award.  I think it is safe to say everybody is fighting to be a finalist as Chet Holmgren of Minnehaha Academy has to be the hands-down favorite.  After all, he is the top-ranked player in the country, the second in as many years for Minnesota High School basketball (Paige Bueckers of Hopkins and now UCONN was the #1 ranked player last year).

Some area players on the 53 player list are –
Finn Diggins (Perham)
Dominic Aguilar (Fergus Falls)
Chance Fazio (Fergus Falls)
Delwyn Holthusen (Red Lake)
Sam Votava (East Grand Forks)

The top 10 will be announced at the end of the regular season.  The Final Five will be announced following section tournaments, and Mr. Basketball will be announced after the state tournament.

JOKES

I Nearly Became A Doctor!!!

When I was young I decided I wanted to be a doctor, so I took the entrance exam to go to Medical School.
One of the questions asked was to rearrange the letters PNEIS into the name of an important human body part which is most useful when erect.

Those who answered spine are doctors today.

The rest of us are sending jokes via email.

Two medical students were walking along the street when they saw an old man walking with his legs spread apart. He was stiff-legged and walking slowly. One student said to his friend: “I’m sure that poor old man has Peltry Syndrome. Those people walk just like that.”

The other student says:  “No, I don’t think so. The old man surely has Zovitzki Syndrome. He walks slowly and his legs are apart, just as we learned in class.”

Since they couldn’t agree they decided to ask the old man. They approached him.  And one of the students said to him, “We’re medical students and couldn’t help but notice the way you walk. We couldn’t agree on the Syndrome you might have….Could you tell us what it is?”

The old man (a retired M.D.) said, “I’ll tell you, but first you tell me what you two fine medical students think.”

The 1st student said, “I think it’s Peltry Syndrome.”
The old man said, “You thought – but you are wrong.”

The 2nd student said, “I think it’s Zovitzki Syndrome.”
The old man said, “You thought – but you are wrong.”

So they asked him, “Well, old-timer, what do you have?”

The old man said, “Well, I thought it was GAS – but I was wrong, too!”

Ever since I was a child, I’d always had a fear of someone under my bed at night.
So I went to a Psychiatrist and told him:
“I’ve got problems. Every time I go to bed I think there’s somebody under it. I’m scared. I think I’m going crazy”
“Just put yourself in my hands for one year,” said the Psychiatrist.
“Come talk to me three times a week and we should be able to get rid of those fears.”
“How much do you charge?”
“One hundred fifty dollars per visit,” replied the Doctor.
“I’ll sleep on it,” I said.
Six months later the Doctor met me on the street.
“Why didn’t you come to see me about those fears you were having?” he asked.
“Well, $150 a visit, three times a week for a year, is $23,400.00. A bartender cured me for $10.00.
I was so happy to have saved all that money that I went and bought a new pickup truck.”
“Is that so? With a bit of an attitude the Psychiatrist said, “and how, may I ask, did a bartender cure you?”
“He told me to cut the legs off the bed. Ain’t nobody under there now.”
It’s always better to get a second opinion!!!
