POLK COUNTY COURT REPORT

There have been several “high profile” arrests in Polk County and some of the criminals have made appearances in Polk County District Court.  Information on those criminals is below.

Michael Kerteris Queen, 39 of Crookston, was arrested on Saturday, December 29 for misdemeanor disorderly conduct and pled guilty Monday, December 31.  He was sentenced to a twenty-day suspended sentence, pending a review on April 14.  The case has been reopened following his January 1 arrest for 2nd-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, which on Thursday was presented as 5th-degree assault in court by the Polk County Attorney’s office.  Queen has pled not guilty to the second charge and a trial has been scheduled to begin February 14.

Presley Sleyster, 20, who was arrested Saturday, December 29 in Crookston for second-degree murder in related to the death of a 3-month-old child in rural Staples. Sleyster was arraigned Monday, December 31 and is being held on a $1 million bond.  He is scheduled to next appear in Cass County District Court Monday, January 7 at 1:30 p.m.

Joshua Carl Hendrickson, 40 of Karlstad, who served 18 years for fatally stabbing Christopher Nelson and injuring a second man at a house party in Halma is facing a new 3rd-degree drug possession charge from his November 27 arrest in Crookston for violating probation.  On Wednesday, January 2, Hendrickson filed a motion to dismiss his drug charge which is scheduled to be heard in a contested omnibus hearing on Tuesday, January 8 at 9:00 a.m. in Polk County District Court.

Brady Ray Veselka, 32, was arrested along with Hendrickson on November 27 for probation violations.  On April 16 Veselka was sentenced to 33 months in prison by the Marshall County District Court.  He is scheduled for an omnibus hearing in Polk County District Court on Thursday, January 10, at 1:00 p.m.

Eddie Markieth Frazier, 50, facing two first-degree murder charges and two counts of second-degree murder in connection to the death of Tawnja Rene Wallace, 48, who was found dead in her Crookston apartment on May 3, 2017.   According to the autopsy she died of strangulation and a December 2017 grand jury found there was enough evidence to believe the death was premeditated.  Frazier’s attorney has filed motions to dismiss the charges related to premeditation and an evidentiary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, January 16 at 9:00 a.m. in Polk County District Court.
