Stella Vakoch – Obit

Stella Vakoch, 87, of rural Ada, MN, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Benedictine Living Community in Ada.

Stella Mae Severtson was born September 3, 1933 on her family farm near Lake Park, MN. She moved with her family as a young girl to Bremerton, WA, where her parents worked for the War effort at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. Stella and her family returned to this area and settled near Twin Valley where she attended school, graduating from Twin Valley High School in 1951. As a young woman she received the statewide 4-H award as Best Breadmaker of Minnesota. She worked as a nurses’ aide in Crookston after graduation.

On September 4, 1955, Stella and Alvin Vakoch were married in St. Olaf Lutheran Church, east of Twin Valley, MN. They farmed at two locations near Ada, the first one for a brief time immediately after their wedding, and the second on their farmstead in Green Meadow Township, where they lived more than sixty years.

Stella was a tireless homemaker, known for her baking, cooking, and immaculate housekeeping, and she always welcomed visitors with lunch and coffee. She was a woman of deep faith and an active member of Faith United Church in Ada, as well as Ladies Aid and Circle.

Stella and Alvin enjoyed spending time with longstanding friends in Ada and the surrounding area, and for many years they enjoyed traveling to square dances throughout the region with fellow members of the Ada Valley Squares, where they both served as presidents.

Stella is survived by her 3 sons, Mitch (Ranae) of Gully, MN, Dan of Kendrick, ID, and Doug (Julie Bayless) of Hayward, CA; 3 grandchildren, Andy (Britany) of Lewiston, ID, Sarah (Justin Acord) of Juliaetta, ID, and Sydney of Gully, MN; 3 great-grandchildren, Atlee, Clancy, and Swayze of Lewiston, ID; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; her parents, Selmer and Millie (Dale) Severtson; her brothers, Oren and Stanley; and her sisters; Helen and Ruby.

Graveside Service: 2:00 PM, Friday, May 7, 2021 at Ada Municipal Cemetery, Ada, MN.

Visitation: 1:00 – 2:00 PM, Friday May 7, 2021 at Fredrikson-Ganje Funeral Home, Ada, MN, following all of the Minnesota and CDC COVID-19 social distancing guidelines. All must wear a mask to attend.
