CROOKSTON PIRATE BOY’S TENNIS COMPETE IN SECTION INDIVIDUAL TOURNEY

The Crookston Pirate Boy’s Tennis team was eliminated yesterday from the Section 8A TEAM Tournament but had six players competing in the Section 8A Individual tournament in East Grand Forks/Grand Forks. The teams battled up to 50 miles per hour wind gusts. “It was tough and both sides in every match had some troubles with the wind,” said Pirate Coach Pat Janorschke.

The results are below –

DOUBLES –
Crookston’s Jack Garmen and Mason Owens received the fourth seed and easily beat #12 seed Max Young and Blake Brehmer of Benson 6-1, 6-1.  “They played really well and rolled over those guys,” said Coach Janorschke.
In the quarterfinal match, which took four hours with two rain delays, Jack and Mason lost a hard-fought battle, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4 to Noah Tarczon and Matt Niblock of Fergus Falls and were eliminated. “Both teams played well,” said Coach Janorschke. “We had the advantage a few times and all of a sudden it rains.  We finished up playing at Choice Fitness’ outdoor courts.  The boys had the advantage in the third set and made a couple of errors and came up short.”

The second Pirate doubles team was made up of two first-year players with Isaac Thomforde and Nathan Kelly lost to Damon Uhde and Nik VanDyke of Minnewaska 6-2, 6-1, and were eliminated.  “It was a great experience for them,” said Coach Janorschke. “They work so hard and they never give up and they ran into a very experience doubles team.”

SINGLES
Erik Coauette lost to Ethan Quelle of Minnewaska 7-5, 6-0 in the first round and was eliminated. “Erik had a very good first set,” said Coach Janorschke. “Erik played very well and ran into a tough opponent.”

Evan Christensen lost to Josh Peterson of Perham 6-0, 6-0 and was eliminated.  “Evan knew the odds were against him and he still went out there and played a great match,” said Coach Janorschke.

The Pirate Boys Tennis team’s season officially comes to an end without a senior on the team.  All the Pirates will be back next season.  “We are going to have everybody back next year and hopefully everybody works hard this summer,” said Coach Janorschke.
