CROOKSTON GIRL’S GOLF FINISHES FOURTH AT PRE-SUB SECTION MEET

The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Golf team shot a 392 and finished fourth place out of seven teams at the Pre North Sub-Section Girl’s Golf meet at the Twin Pines Golf Course in Bagley.  Park Rapids won the meet with a 378, three strokes better than East Grand Forks.  The course will be the site of the North Sub-Section 8AA meet on June 1.  At the sub-section meet, the top three teams and top six individuals not on the top three teams will advance to the Section 8A tournament in Bemidji on June 7 and 8.  “We knew going in we are right there, and if we play well, we will be in, and if we don’t play well, we will be on the outside looking in,” said Pirate Coach Jeff Perreault.

The Pirates struggled a bit on the first nine holes. “I look at the splits, and the first nine we weren’t very good, and I would attribute it to how cold it was, and we weren’t used to playing in those conditions anymore,” said Coach Perreault. “On the second nine, we played much better.  It was more like I was expecting, and it was closer to what they shot when they came here for their practice round.  We definitely have some work to do.”

Joslynn Leach led the Pirates again with an 89, which was good for fifth place individually.  Joslynn had four pars, 13 bogies, and one double bogey.  “She wasn’t where she wanted to be today.  She thinks she could be around 80 on this course, and I would agree with her,” said Coach Perreault. “I noticed she was good off the tee like she usually is.  Her putter wasn’t as hot as it normally is.”

Hannah Brouse shot a 98.  “Hannah wants to be at 95, and she can be below 95 on a good day,” said Coach Perreault. “She had some good holes and a couple of tough holes.  I know she will be ready on Tuesday.”

Sophia Rezac shot a 102 and edged her younger sister by a stroke as Samantha Rezac shot a 103. “They push each other in practice, and there is a good sibling rivalry there,” said Coach Perreault. “Sophia doesn’t want to get beat by her younger sister, and Samantha wants to beat her sister, so that is fun to see them try to beat each other’s score.”

If the meet today would have been the sub-section meet, Crookston would have missed advancing to the Section 8A tournament by four strokes, and only Joslynn Leach would have advanced individually. “I have faith in the girls that they are going to put the time in now through Tuesday, and if the girls work hard, we will continue as a team,” said Coach Perreault.
