The Crookston Pirate Girl’s Tennis team had four players competing in the Minnesota State Individual Tournament at the Reed Sweatt Family Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
Senior Hayden Winjum is playing with her sister Halle (Soph) while the Emma’s, Emma Osborn (Senior) and Emma Gunderson (Soph) were also competing.
Emma Gunderson and Emma Osborn had a tough draw to start the tournament as they took on the #1 seed Elyse Palen and Taylor Ellion of Rochester Lourdes in the first round and lost 6-0, 6-0. The Emma’s bounced back with an impressive 6-4, 6-0 win over Hannah Helms and Elise Duncan of Benson to advance to the consolation semi-finals on Friday.
Hayden Winjum and Halle Winjum had a great start to the tournament with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Libby Totzke and Maggy Totzke of Fairmont. In the second round, they lost to Kylie Michels and Britney Prahl of Litchfield 6-2, 6-3, and in a weird quirk at state individual tennis, they were eliminated.
