The Crookston Pirate Boys Tennis team played a solid match but came up short in a 5-2 loss to Alexandria, but bounced back to beat the Osakis Silverstreaks 6-1 before losing to Monticello 5-2 in a quadrangular played in Alexandria on Saturday morning/afternoon.
CROOKSTON VS ALEXANDRIA –
Alexandria has a strong and deep team and they proved that in the first match of the day as they jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead over Crookston. Alexandria won the second doubles match 6-0, 6-2 to take the early lead. They won second singles and first singles in straight sets. Jack Garmen lost his first set 6-0, but continued to battle in the second set and lost a close second set 6-4 and the Pirates trailed 3-0 to start the match.
Alexandria won the match by winning the first doubles in straight sets, but Crookston finished the match strong showing some depth at singles. Reggie Winjum won a hard-fought third singles match 6-4, 6-4 to get the first Pirate victory. Shortly after the first win, Isaac Thomforde picked up another victory at fourth singles with an exciting 7-6 victory with a 10-4 tie-breaker first set win. Isaac followed with a strong second set and a 6-2 victory to get the Pirate’s second win.
The final match completed was at third doubles as Alexandria won in straight sets to earn a 5-2 victory.

CROOKSTON VS OSAKIS-
Crookston started the match against Osakis with a 2-0 lead because Osakis didn’t have a full line-up. They are hoping to have a full line-up next week, but were unable to get 10 players for the matches today.
Osakis won the first match that was played with a win at first singles in straight sets.
With a 2-1 lead, Crookston’s Isaac Thomforde improved to 3-0 on the year and gave his team a 3-1 lead with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 victory at fourth singles. Crookston needed one more win to get the first team victory of the season.
The Pirates won the next match with Erik Coauette winning his second singles match 6-1, 6-3 for a 4-1 lead. Reggie Winjum improved to 3-0 on the year as he cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory for a 5-1 lead.
Crookston wrapped up the match with a three-set victory at first doubles. Evan Christensen and Mason Owens continue their hot start to the season with the seniors winning the first set 6-1. They struggled in the second set and lost 6-2 before bouncing back to win a thrilling third set 10-8 to give the Pirates a 6-1 victory, the first of the season.

CROOKSTON VS MONTICELLO
The final match of the day for the Pirates was against a solid Monticello team who beat Osakis and Alexandria earlier in the day.
Monticello won first singles and second doubles easily. The third singles match was a good battle for Crookston’s Winjum. He lost the first set 6-2, but bounced back to battle in the second set before coming up short 7-6.
Crookston got their first win at fourth singles as Thomforde improves to a perfect 4-0 on the year as he won the first set 6-2. He lost the second set 4-6 before winning the third set 10-5 to bring the Pirates within a 3-1 deficit.
Monticello won their fourth match with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at second singles for a 4-1 lead.
Crookston picked up their second win of the match with the first doubles team of Jack Garmen and Evan Christensen winning the first set 6-4 and the second set 7-6. Monticello won the third doubles match and won the match by a 5-2 score.
Crookston is 1-3 on the year and is scheduled to head to East Grand Forks to play the Green Wave and Fergus Falls at 1:00 and 2:30 p.m.
