Alluma wishes to invite Crookston and surrounding communities to join them for their 1st Annual Alluma Night on Thursday, May 19. “This year marks our first year as Alluma and 60 years of providing mental health care in northwest Minnesota,” said Shauna Reitmeier, Chief Executive Officer at Alluma. “We’ve wanted to do an event like this for a long time. What better way to celebrate these major milestones than to host a community event during Mental Health Awareness Month?”
The National Institute of Mental Health estimates that one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness. Alluma Night aims to raise awareness and normalize conversations around mental health. “No age, gender, profession, or social status is immune to mental health challenges. It impacts all people. Mental health should be just as easy to talk about as getting an annual physical or visiting the eye doctor,” says Angie Carlson, MSW, LICSW, a Mental Health Professional at Alluma.
Alluma Night will give people a safe place to learn different ways to heal, cope, and care for their mental health. There will be various hands-on activities and interactive stations for kids and adults. The event will kick off at 4:30 p.m. at the Sargeant Student Center and Campus Mall on the University of Minnesota Crookston campus.
“Overcoming mental and chemical health challenges can feel overwhelming and impossible,” says Reitmeier. “We believe relationships and social connections are essential to healing, recovery, and overall wellbeing.” Alluma will offer free mental health screenings and resources during the event. Swag bags will be available while supplies last. The event is free of charge and open to the public. Transportation will be available in Crookston city limits via T.H.E. Bus between 4:30-8:30 p.m.
