Crookston High School graduate and current Crookston resident, Annie Fitzgerald recently released an album that has been a year in the works. The album “You & Me & The Sun” was released on June 1 and Annie has been on a whirlwind tour promoting her new album. “It’s been a year-long process or so. Last summer I found a producer by the name of Danny O’Brien that I really wanted to work with and sent him demos and worked through which songs we were going to keep and came up with 10 tracks,” said Fitzgerald.
“Then it was the process of finding the right musicians to work with. I had a friend and a bass player in the cities I knew I wanted to bring in and it sort of evolved from there and started the recording process in November and the record was done in January.”
Fitzgerald writes the music and lyrics for her songs and she has refined the process over the years. “The biggest thing is trust going into it and making sure I stay out of my own way,” said Fitzgerald. “It is a lot of what is going on in your life, or in the world, or family and friends, or whatever and what inspires you to write something.”
With the album complete, it was time to promote the album and that has kept Fitzgerald busy going from coast to coast. “There has been a ton of promotion and I have a team that I work with, a publicist and radio person and all of that stuff, a lot of busy work to get everything going. It has been super rewarding and it has been about seven years since I had recorded something,” said Fitzgerald. “I have been doing a bunch of traveling and had a release party in New York a few weeks ago, I was out in Los Angeles and San Diego doing some touring and now I get to hang out with my kiddo before he starts Kindergarten for a few weeks, so I am excited to be home.”
Fitzgerald was happy to be back in New York City, a place she lived for 10 years, and said L.A. was a great experience and she had some meetings with friends that work in film and T.V. and she learned about that business. “L.A. was really fun for me because it was a new market for me, I hadn’t really played out there a whole lot,” said Fitzgerald. “It was exciting to go out there and meet some new people and New York is wonderful. It was fun to know I was only there four days and then coming home to the quiet and the peace, which I have grown to appreciate even more since we have moved back home.”
Her new album is available at Wonderful Life Foods in downtown Crookston, or go to Annie’s website at www.anniefitzgerald.com for other ways to buy the album.
