CROOKSTON POLICE WARNS PUBLIC OF SCAM HOME RENTAL CALLS

The Crookston Police Department has received a report regarding scam rental homes being available in Crookston.

The rental home in Crookston was a home that is or was for sale, and when inquired about it, the scammer stated the house was no longer for sale and there was no need to call the realtor. The scammer sent a questionnaire/application along with the email to fill out. The end game of the scam would be to have the person send money via a cash app on a phone to the scammer. No money was sent out, and the scam was caught before it went further.

If you come across an ad for rental properties, please verify that it is not a scam and never send any money via phone apps without meeting the landlord in person. On many of these scams, the grammar is not correct, or minor details don’t make sense or contradict prior statements. If you are unsure if it is a scam, feel free to contact your local law enforcement agency.
