Sunday, March 10 at 10:33 p.m., the Grand Forks Fire Department was dispatched to 3420 Meadow Drive for a report of a loud cracking heard in the occupant’s garage. Firefighters arrived on the scene of the two-story single family home to find that the roof of the attached garage was sagging due to the weight of the accumulated snow. Fire crews investigated the attic space of the garage and found several of the roof trusses had failed due to the weight of the snow. Fire crews placed shoring to stabilize the roof to prevent collapse. Fire crews removed a large amount of the snow that had accumulated between the house and garage. There were no injuries, and the occupants were not displaced from the home. The Grand Forks Fire Department is urging residents to watch for excessive snow accumulation on roofs and keep hydrants and gas meters cleared of snow.
