The Ada-Borup-West Cougars scored a ton of points on layups and took advantage of Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball turnovers to cruise to an 89-48 victory at the Crookston High School gymnasium in the regular season finale for both teams.
First Half –
It was a high-scoring first start to the game. Ada-Borup-West took a 3-1 lead in the first minute of the game before Crookston’s Isaac Thomforde made a three-pointer from the corner to give the Pirates a 4-3 lead 64 seconds into the game. The teams exchanged points, and Ada-Borup-West had an 8-6 lead three minutes into the game. The scoring stopped for Crookston while the Cougars scored at will with a combination of a lot of layups and some three-pointers as they went on a 22-6 run over the next eight minutes and led 30-12 with eight minutes left in the half. Ada-Borup-West had eight different players score in the first 11 minutes of the game. Crookston continued to turn the ball over and Ada-Borup-West continued to take advantage as they continued to pull away and took a 50-24 lead at halftime.
Second Half –
The second half had a good start for Crookston as Tanner Giese made a three-pointer, but Ada-Borup-West responded with five straight points. That was the theme for most of the game and the second half. Crookston would score, and the Cougars would respond with a mini-run. Ada-Borup-West led 58-31 when they went on an 8-3 run, with the only Crookston points coming from a Ryan Abeld three-pointer. The Cougars had a 75-39 lead with 9:15 left in the game, and when the clock hit nine minutes left, running time began. Both teams went deeper to tbe bench for the final minutes of the game, and the Cougars cruised to an 89-48 victory.
Crookston ends the regular season with an 8-18 record and will be on the road in the first round of the Section 8AA tournament on Thursday. Ada-Borup-West improves to 18-9 on the year and will begin the Section 8A tournament, likely as the #4 seed in the East sub-section on Thursday.
