The 18th annual Sugar Beat Museum Harvest will occur on Sunday, September 10, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
This event started in 2004 and has run every year since 2020, which was canceled due to the pandemic. Those in attendance can expect to see demonstrations of vintage equipment harvesting sugar beats and additional events.
This year’s events include the vintage beat harvest starting at 11:00 a.m., including a display of all vintage machinery, the tractor pulls starting at noon, and the steam threshing of wheat throughout the event.
Those attending are encouraged to provide their seating during the tractor-pull event.
For the first time in this event’s history, they will show a new style of beat harvester demonstration. “This will take place in a field over by the CVC a couple of blocks from the museum,” said Chairman of the Sugar Beat Museum Don Andringa, “This will be in a commercial beat field. This is a new style harvester with a rotem beater on the front. It’s like the giant million-dollar ones you see used, but this will be on a smaller scale.”
Admission will be free for this event, but the Sugar Beat Museum will accept free-will donations.
There will be bus transportation available during the entirety of the event. The bus route will go from the Sugar Beat Museum to the Polk County Museum for the Pioneer Day event and vice versa.
