KCC DOMINATES THE SECOND HALF TO SPOIL CROOKSTON BOYS HOOPS SENIOR NIGHT

The Kittson County Central Bearcats dominated the second half as they broke open a tied game early in the second half and coasted to an 88-64 victory over the Crookston Pirate Boys Basketball team, spoiling senior night in a game played at the Crookston High School gymnasium. KCC was led by Ty Vig’s 35 points.

FIRST HALF
The first half was a back-and-forth battle with KCC’s Ty Vig scored the first basket of the game. Crookston answered with a Rylan Lubarski basket to tie the game at 2-2. KCC’s Vig made a three-pointer, and after a Crookston free throw, Vig added a basket for a 7-3 Bearcat lead. The teams exchanged baskets, and KCC led 9-8 when Vig scored five more points before Crookston’s Jack Everett made a three-pointer. Vig responded with a three-pointer for his 17th point of the game and a 17-11 lead. KCC led 38-32 with 1:45 left in the half when Crookston’s Reggie Winjum made a basket and after a KCC basket, Tyler Michaelson made a three-pointer and Crookston trailed 40-37 going into halftime.

SECOND HALF
Crookston started the second half with a Winjum three-pointer to tie the game at 40. KCC took the lead before Crookston’s Michaelson made a three-pointer to tie the game at 45. KCC took over the game the rest of the way as they went on an 18-5 run over a four-minute span with five different players scoring to take a 63-50 lead. Hunter Nicholas stopped the run with four points before KCC went on a 12-0 run behind eight points from Kellen Johnson for a 75-54 lead.  KCC continued to dominate the rest of the way and led 88-62 with a few seconds left. The highlight of the game came in the final seconds when Crookston dressed first year basketball player and senior, Jaylin Lamb. He got in the game in the final seconds, and while KCC was shooting a free throw, he snuck down the floor. Crookston’s Michael Deng grabbed the rebound off the missed free throw and threw a pass down the floor to Lamb, who went in for the layup to get his first two varsity points of his career as the Pirate crowd and bench erupted in celebration.  Even though Crookston lost 88-64, the Pirates were all smiles at the end of the game with the special ending to senior night and the final home game of the season.
