UMC MEN’S GOLF PICKED TO FINISH 7TH IN NSIC COACHES POLL

The University of Minnesota Crookston men’s golf team was slated to finish seventh in the annual NSIC Men’s Golf Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

Minnesota State was picked to finish in first place with six first place votes, while Winona State and Concordia-St. Paul round out the top three. The Golden Bears earned two first place votes, while Sioux Falls, who was picked to finish fifth, earned a solo vote.

Sioux Falls senior Mason Weeks was picked as the NSIC Men’s Golf Preseason Golfer of the Year.

Lukas Justesen (Sr., Detroit Lakes) was tabbed as the student-athlete to watch for the Golden Eagles. The senior finished last season in a tie for 12th at the NSIC Tournament and had an average round of 75.6.

“Lukas was one of our most consistent players last year playing in every event in his first year as a Golden Eagle,” mentioned Heppner. “Lucas has quickly become a great leader for us on the golf course, in the classroom and in the gym. He gives everything he does 100% plus and I look forward to seeing what he can bring to our team this year.”

Heppner is also excited about his squad this season and how much depth they have. “The thing that excites me about this team the most is our depth and how they want the Golden Eagles as a team to be successful. We have a great mix of younger and older student athletes and it will be fun to watch as they develop and compete this year.”

The Golden Eagles will open the season on September 9 for a two-day tournament at ‘The Mule’ in Warrensburg, Missouri. The Golden Eagles will compete in six fall tournaments.
