Crookston Pirate Boys Soccer drops match to Hibbing

The Crookston Pirate Boys Soccer team was outplayed on both sides of the ball throughout the night, and the Hibbing Bluejackets took advantage en route to a 5-1 win at KROX Radio Stadium at Crookston High School.

FIRST HALF
The first few minutes of the first half set the tone for how the match was going to go. Crookston had the ball in the offensive zone for the majority of the first half, but the vast majority of their shots did not make it to net. Whereas Hibbing, on the other hand, scored on their first two shots, both by Julien Fisher, in the 14th and 20th minute. The Bluejackets were not able to keep the possession for very long during the half, but the defense was very disruptive, causing many problems to the Crookston offense. The Pirates had 5 corner kicks in the first half, but were only able to get one shot on goal in all of them, which resulted in Hibbing taking a 2-0 lead to the half.

SECOND HALF –
The second half started the same way for Hibbing, and after two shots on goal in the opening minute that were saved by Reggie Winjum, Elias Langner scored on a breakaway to make it 3-0. The Bluejackets then saw the opportunity to make the game a blowout, and they took full advantage, applying constant pressure on the Crookston offense for the next 20 minutes of the half, stopping every opportunity they had. Then, in the 65th minute, another breakaway for Julien Fisher resulted in the 4th goal for Hibbing, and granting Fisher the hat trick. Three minutes later, Dallas Hoover joined the fun, scoring on a free kick to make it 5-0. Crookston continued to scrap and claw, refusing to be shut out, and finally cashed in with a goal by Michael Bochow in the 72nd minute. The goal was Bochow’s first varsity goal. That was all they would get as the Bluejackets were able to win 5-1.

Crookston now falls to 7-4 on the season, while Hibbing gets their first win of the year, making their record 1-7-1.
