Crookston Pirate Wrestler Masyn Arguelles goes 3-2 at Section 7/8 Girls Wrestling tournament

Crookston Pirate Girls Wrestler Masyn Arguelles competed in the Section 7/8 Individual Wrestling tournament on Saturday in Brainerd.

In girls wrestling, there is only one class and four sections with Sections 7 and 8 being combined.

Masyn wrestled at 118 pounds and was one of 28 wrestlers in her bracket.

In the first round, Masyn received a bye.
Masyn took on Allison Knaffla of Milaca/Faith Christian in the second round
. Knaffla scored a takedown 36 seconds into the match for a 3-0 lead. There wasn’t any scoring until Arguelles scored two points on a reversal and trailed 3-2 after the first period. In the second period, Arguelles scored three points on a takedown, added four nearfall points for a 9-3 lead with 51 seconds remaining, and took the lead into the third period. In the third, Knaffla won by a pin at 4:49.
In wrestlebacks, Arguelles won the first match by a pin at 2:28 over Brooklyn Budeau of Sauk Centre.
In the next round of wrestlebacks, Masyn didn’t waste any time as she beat Madelyn Kist of Staples-Motley by a pin in 50 seconds.
In the third match of wresltebacks, Masyn took on Kiera Hagman-Nyaga of Bemidji and lost by a 6-1 decision and was eliminated. Masyn finished the season with a 21-9 record.
