The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous reports of scam calls in which the caller claims to be a Polk County Sheriff’s Office Employee. In at least one call the number that showed up on the called person’s caller ID was the legit Polk County Sheriff’s Office number, 218-281-0431. The caller claimed to be Sgt. Hibma (who is an employee with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office) and advised that the called person missed jury duty and needed to pay a fine or risk going to jail.
This is a scam and as a reminder the Polk County Sheriff’s Office never collects any type of fee over the phone or in person.
