The Crookston High School Class of 1968 won the Carnegie Class Donation Contest with a $500 contribution recently.
“The Carnegie is one of the only buildings still standing in which we spent our school years!” Many alumni of the Class of 1968 who returned to Crookston for their 50th Class Reunion made this statement during the Carnegie’s Ox Cart Days Open House. In appreciation, the class donated $500 to the Carnegie Class Donation Competition and won it easily. This competition is a fundraiser for the Carnegie restoration projects. Their class year “1968” will be added to the perpetual trophy on display at the Carnegie. This donation will go towards the 2018/19 focus project of installing a wheelchair lift to accommodate our supporters and visitors who cannot use the stairs. We are excited about this project and are deeply appreciative of this and all the generous donations were given during the Carnegie Open House.
This year’s Carnegie celebration honored the memory of Kristina Gray. In her honor, an outdoor tea (see picture below) was held Saturday on the patio south of the Carnegie. A tip to this year’s “Hats Off” theme ” A Retrospective Display of Hats from 1890-1990” was featured. Hats from the Polk County Historical Society’s (PCHS) collection were on display. Also, two large bulletin boards illustrated the accomplishments and improvements to the building in the last four years and the future projects of the PCHS/Carnegie Committee.
In November, the PCHS/Carnegie Committee plans to honor our veterans with a program at the Carnegie. The program will include live music, military uniforms, and headgear from the PCHS museum, World War II posters, and more.
