ODC names Lane Young as its new President/CEO

Occupational Development Center (ODC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with  special abilities through meaningful employment and community engagement, is proud to announce the appointment of Lane Young as its new President/CEO, effective July 1, 2025.

Lane brings more than two decades of experience at ODC to this leadership role. He began his journey with the organization in 2004 as a Business Development Coordinator—a newly created position at the time. In 2015, Lane was promoted to the Leadership Team as Vice President of Marketing & Business Development, where he played a vital role in shaping ODC’s strategic partnerships and community presence.

“I am honored and humbled to be selected for this position,” said Young. “As an employee for over two decades in various roles, I have witnessed firsthand the effect that ODC has on people’s lives within each community we serve. I’m excited to bring my experience and insights to this new position and contribute in a new way to the company’s continued success.”

Lane’s educational background includes an Associate of Science in Marketing and Management from Minot State University, a Bachelor of Applied Science from Bemidji State University, and a Master of Business Administration from St. Cloud State University—an achievement he earned while balancing professional responsibilities and family life. He resides in Bemidji with his wife, Sarah. Together, they have two children: Kendall, a recent graduate of Mankato State University, and Coleman, currently in his second year at Mankato State.

As he steps into the CEO role, Lane is focused on building upon the strong foundation laid by outgoing President/CEO June Schelde. “I am eager to guide ODC toward a path for growth that nurtures a sustainable future for ODC, empowers our employees, and expands opportunities for the individuals we serve,” he said.

Young’s passion for the organization and its mission is evident. “Every day is fulfilling at ODC because we are helping the individuals we serve to become more independent and connected to their communities. Witnessing this type of growth first-hand is very rewarding,” he shared. “We have a wonderful team of professionals who are dedicated to the mission. I am excited to continue working with them to enhance our family-oriented culture that is contagious to those looking to join our company.”

ODC currently serves communities across northern Minnesota with programs that support employment, vocational training, and community integration for individuals with disabilities. With locations in Bemidji, Thief River Falls, Grand Rapids, International Falls, and beyond, ODC continues to be a trusted resource for families and employers alike.
