Crookston Pirate Volleyball falls to TRF on the road

The Crookston Pirate Volleyball team couldn’t keep up with the Thief River Falls Prowlers’ offense, as they cruised to a 3 sets to none win, by a score of 25-13, 25-12, 25-10 at the Brickhouse on Tuesday night.

FIRST SET
The Prowlers got off to a fantastic start in this contest, scoring the first 7 points with the help of kills from Marley Anderson and Kendall Zerr. After a quick timeout, Jayde Uttermark delivered a kill to put the Pirates on the board, but TRF proceeded to score 5 of the next 6 points to take a 12-2 advantage. It was at this point that the Pirate level of play started to increase, with Abi Bruley getting a kill followed by an ace in consecutive points to cut the lead to 19-6. Once TRF got to 24, Crooskton rattled off 3 straight points to cut the lead, but the Prowlers were able to hang on to win the set 25-13.

SECOND SET
The second set started a lot better for the Pirates. After TRF scored the first 2 points, a service error put the Pirates on the board. Then, back-to-back Madi Abrams aces led a 4-1 Pirates run to go up 5-3. TRF had an answer, as they scored 5 in a row to take an 8-5 lead. After this, both teams alternated points all the way up until it was 12-9, before a Karena Bakken kill set up the Prowlers to find another gear. Their offense seemingly couldn’t miss, and even though Jayde Uttermark added 2 more kills, TRF ended the second set on a 13-3 run to go up 25-12, taking the second set and going up 2 sets to none.

THIRD SET
The Pirates got off to their best start in the match, scoring the first 3 points of the set on 2 Ella Anderson kills. That sparked a 5-2 run to start the set, where TRF continued to make errors on serve and serve-receive. After this, however, the Prwlers found their groove once again. They rotated in a lot of reserves, including Mya Smith and Skyanna Wilson, and they delivered two kills each as the Prowlers broke open a 12-1 run, en route to a 14-6 lead. The Pirates were still able to capitalize on a few more Prowler errors, but the offense was too much to handle as they took the third set 25-10, winning the match 3 sets to none.

Crooskton drops to 0-6 on the season. TRF is now 7-2.
