Crookston Police Chief Darin Selzer says a 17-year old living out of state made threat that caused concern

(UPDATE – 12:41 PM September 24)
Crookston Police Chief Darin Selzler spoke with KROX Radio on Wednesday at Noon and gave information on the threat that brought extra law enforcement to the Crookston High School on Wednesday morning.

Chief Selzler gave the following information –
On Tuesday, September 23rd, at approximately 4:12 p.m., Crookston Police Department received information about an alleged threat to the Crookston High School. The Crookston Police Department’s initial investigation confirmed the following:
The original reporting party received information of a possible threat to the Crookston High School on Monday, September 22nd, via a social media post and did not report the information to the Crookston High School staff or Crookston Police Department until Tuesday, September 23rd at 4:12 p.m.

All information relating to this threat to the Crookston High School has been third-party information.

Further investigation confirmed the alleged suspect, a juvenile male 17 years of age, has been identified, lives out of state, and does not have transportation means to travel to Crookston.

The original reporting party cannot confirm when they received the social media message and the threats were made to the city of Crookston and not the Crookston High School.

The Crookston Police Department takes all threats to schools and the public very seriously, and as such we take whatever precautions necessary and all of our investigative resources to ensure the public safety of our schools and our community. Out of an abundance of caution, we continue to have an increased law enforcement presence at the Crookston High School as we are still actively investigating this incident.
