Crookston Pirate Girls Hockey shut out by #2 Warroad

The Crookston Pirate Girls Hockey teamstruggled against the Warroad Warriors, and ended up falling to them by a score of 7-0 in a Section 8A game played at the Crookston Sports Center on Tuesday night.

FIRST PERIOD
As the game started, Warroad immediately started what would be the primary trend for the game, as the Warriors did a great job of keeping the puck in the Crookston zone. It was a tough test for Madi Abrams in net, and even though she stopped the first 5 shots she faced, Jaylie French was able to beat her gloveside to take a 1-0 lead. Just two minutes after that, Olivia Anthony took the puck away from Keely Garrett in the neutral zone, and was able to score on a breakaway to put the Warriors up 2-0. Abrams and the rest of the defense was able to hold off the Warriors until near the end of the period, but after the Warriors completed a successful penalty kill, Anthony scored again, this time with 1:32 remaining to put the Warriors up 3-0, which would stand at the end of the period.

SECOND PERIOD
After only getting three shots on goal in the first period, the Pirates needed to turn things up in the second frame. They had a couple shots early, put Minnesota Golden Gopher commit Payton Rolli was shutting everything down in net for the Warriors. As the halfway point of the period approached, French put away her second goal of the night, putting the Warriors up 4-0. Again, just over two minutes later, the Warriors cashed in again, this time with Samantha Earhart on the 3rd line, and the Warriors took a 5-0 lead. The PIrates were then a player down after a tripping penalty, but were successfully able to kill it, and the lead stayed at 5-0 as the game headed toward the third period.

THIRD PERIOD
As the third period started, both teams slowed down on offense. The Pirates had seven shots on goal in the second period, but the third period only produced 2 shots on goal, both in the first 5 minutes, and both saved by Payton Rolli. As for the Warrior offense, it picked up in the second half of the period, as two scrambles in front of Abrams got by her; one at 11:03 by Taylor Reese, and then one at 15:09 by Lindsey Lorenson. This put the Warriors up 7-0, and they were able to cruise to a victory under running time, taking a 7-0 win.

Crookston drops to 1-7 on the year, and Warroad improves to 5-2 on the season.
